Mt. Kasugayama

Mt. Kasuga-yama (989 m) rises on the border between the former Hikimi and Mito districts of Masuda City, Shimane Prefecture; the summit shrine, said to enshrine Kasuga Daimyōjin invoked from Kasuga Taisha in Nara, gives the mountain its name. Trails climb from Ochiai in Hikimi and from Sagaya Valley on the Mito side. The summit looks out over the Sea of Japan and the ridges of Jakuchi-yama, Yōkoku-yama and the western Chūgoku Mountains, and an annual shrine festival is held on 5 August. The peak is one of the Chūgoku Hundred Mountains.
