Mt. Hotokegaoyama

Hotokegaoyama is a 1,139 m gabled peak in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture, rising northeast of Gero Station across the Hida River. According to local legend Oda Nobunaga, when he built Gifu Castle on Mt. Kinka, enshrined a golden Kannon on this 'Musubi-no-Yama' as it lay on his castle's demonic gate (kimon). The peak is hidden from villages below, but its summit commands sweeping views of Mt. Ontake, Norikura, the Hotaka range and Mt. Haku. The trail from JR Kamigero Station forms part of Gero City's 'Iyashi-no-Michi' forest-bathing course, and the peak appears in the Gifu Hyakuzan and the Hida Hyakuzan.
