Mt. Hiraofuji

A 1,155.5 m isolated peak rising on the eastern rim of the Saku Plain in eastern Saku City, Nagano Prefecture. The summit holds a Fuji-Sengen Shrine and the lookout fortress of medieval Hirao Castle, built by the Hirao clan during the Warring States period. Its graceful conical profile has earned it a place among Japan's 'Furusato Fuji' hometown-Fuji peaks, and a hiking trail leads directly from the Saku Highway Oasis (Parada) attached to the Sakudaira PA on the Jōshin-Etsu Expressway. The mountain is documented in the Shinshū Mountain Guide maintained by the Nagano Prefecture Mountaineering Federation.
