Mt. Handa is an 863.1 m peak in northwestern Koori Town, Date District, Fukushima Prefecture, designated together with Lake Handa as Handayama Prefectural Natural Park. In the Edo period it was the site of the Handa Silver Mine, counted with the Sado Aikawa Gold Mine and Tajima Ikuno Silver Mine as one of the shogunate's three principal minting mines, and is said to be the origin of the Japanese word for soldering (handa-zuke). Lake Handa appears heart-shaped when viewed from near the summit, earning the nickname "Heart Lake." The peak is listed in the Utsukushima 100, Fukushima 30, and Fukushima Prefecture mountain guides.
