Mt. Atsukashiyama

Atsukashiyama, also written 阿津賀志山, is a 289 m peak in Kunimi Town, Date District, Fukushima Prefecture, listed in the Utsukushima Hyakumeizan. The mountain was the site of the decisive 1189 Battle of Atsukashiyama in the Oshu Campaign, and the Fujiwara clan's earthworks — the nationally designated Atsukashiyama Rampart — still stretch from its slopes down to the Abukuma River. A road climbs to just below the summit, where an observation deck overlooks the Fukushima Basin and the Azuma and Adatara ranges.
