Mt. Dōzu

堂津岳

A 1,927 m peak on the meeting point of Nagano City, Otari Village (Nagano) and Myōkō City (Niigata), forming the principal summit of the Nishiyama range that runs west of the Togakushi mountains. The peak is listed among the Shinshū Hyakumeizan but its trail is almost completely overgrown with dwarf bamboo in the snow-free months; in practice it can only be climbed in late April and early May when the Oku-Susobana access road reopens and lingering snow covers the bamboo. The standard return time from the trailhead is about five hours up and three and a half hours down.
