Mt. Ban'ya

Mt. Ban'ya is a 933 m peak in the former Shitada Village area of Sanjō City, Niigata Prefecture, on the historic Hachijūri-goe pass route, selected in the Niigata 100 Meizan and Hachijūri-goe Seven Peaks. A second-class triangulation point sits at the summit, which offers a striking view of the north face of Mt. Sumon. The trail starts at Yoshigahira and ascends past Awagaike Pond, with an annual Yamabiraki opening ceremony held jointly with Mt. Sumon in June. The prefectural road to Yoshigahira is closed mid-November through late May for winter.
