Mount Sennokura
仙ノ倉山
Yuzawa, Niigata · Elevation 2,026 m
Mount Sennokura is a 2,026 m peak straddling the prefectural border between Minakami in Gunma and Yuzawa in Niigata, and the highest summit of the Tanigawa Range from Shimizu Pass to Mikuni Pass. Set within Jōshin'etsu-kōgen National Park, it appears in the Nihon Nihyaku Meizan, the Gunma Hyakumeizan, the Echigo Hyakuzan, and the Kantō Hyakumeizan. Its summit area features broad, gentle ridges; the saddle linking it with neighbouring Tairappyō-yama hosts a celebrated alpine flower meadow rich in Hakusan-ichige, Hakusan-kozakura, and many other species. The standard ascent climbs from the Tairappyō trailhead at Motohashi on the Niigata side via Matsude-yama to Tairappyō, then traverses east along the ridge to the summit; the climbing season runs roughly from mid-May through early November.
