Mount Morai is a 1,717.6 m peak straddling Sakuho Town and Koumi Town in Minamisaku District, Nagano Prefecture, at the northwestern edge of the Chichibu Mountains. Its symmetrical conical form rises conspicuously above the Saku Basin and has long been an object of rain-prayer worship; a stone shrine erected in 1793 (Kansei 5) still stands on the summit. Along the Kirikubozawa route is the giant horse-chestnut nicknamed "Kobu-Tarō," estimated at 250 years old and selected for the One Hundred Giants of the Forest. The mountain is included in the Shinshu Hyakumeizan and several other Nagano-area lists.
