Mount Kekachi is a 2,414 m peak straddling Uozu and Kurobe Cities in Toyama Prefecture, the highest of the Kekachi Sanzan trio (Kekachi-yama, Kamadani-yama, and Nekomata-yama) that forms a ridge running north from Mount Tsurugi. Sitting within Chūbu-Sangaku National Park, it is listed in the Nihon Nihyaku Meizan, the Toyama 100 Mountains, and the Shin-Etchū 100 Mountains. The peak was long considered a wilderness summit reachable only in residual-snow season via the great snow couloir of Kekachi-dani from Abuki-dani; in recent years a summer-season trail along the Northwest Ridge from the Higashimata-dani trailhead has been opened, but it remains a long, sustained-climb route over the headwall of Katakura-dani that demands stamina and experience. The summit panorama spans Tsurugi, the Ushiro-Tateyama Range, the Toyama Plain, and the Sea of Japan beyond.
