Mount Kaibuki (210.3 m) rises on the border of Takatori Town (Takaichi District) and Kashihara City in Nara Prefecture. Its name is said to derive from the practice of blowing conch shells to warn of approaching enemies. In the Nanboku-cho period the Ochi clan built Kaibukiyama Castle atop the summit's Gozutennō burial mound; the castle fell in 1568 to the Matsunaga forces. Shrines and temples connected to the Ochi clan, such as Yunan Shrine and Koun-ji, remain at its foot. The peak is included in the Nara 100 Yusan list.
