Mount Hakone (Kamiyama, 1,438 m) is an active volcano in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture, at the heart of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Kamiyama is the central cone and highest peak of the Hakone caldera. About 3,200 years ago its northern flank collapsed, damming a river and giving Lake Ashi its present form. Closed after the 2015 Owakudani eruption, the path between Komagatake and Kamiyama reopened on 28 March 2025 after nearly ten years, once volcanic gases were no longer detected. Access is possible using the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway or on foot from Hakone-en, but the Kamiyama–Owakudani path and other nearby routes remain closed.
