Mount Dainichi (Dainichizan, 1,368 m) is a troidé-type volcano at the northwestern end of the Ryōhaku Range, straddling Kaga and Komatsu in Ishikawa Prefecture and Katsuyama in Fukui Prefecture. Known as Kaga-Dainichi on the Ishikawa side and Echizen-Dainichi or Echizen-Kabuto on the Fukui side, it is the highest peak of Komatsu City; old beech forest cloaks the slopes and the grassy summit commands sweeping views of the Hakusan range. Long revered as a shrine to Dainichi Nyorai, it is recorded in the Edo-era Hakusan Yūran Zuki. The peak lies within the 1967-designated Yamanaka-Dainichisan Prefectural Natural Park, with maintained trails from Masago-machi in Kaga and Shinbo in Komatsu. It appears in Nihon no Yama 1000, Hokuriku no Hyakuzan, and the Hokuriku Shinkansen Hyakumeizan.
