Nishikoma-sanso
西駒山荘
2,684 m · Ina, Nagano · 2.6 km from the summit of Inamaedake
Mountain hut at 2,685m just below Shogigashirayama in the northern Central Alps. Operated by Ina City Kanko Co., it pairs a timber building rebuilt in 2014 with the old stone shelter beside it. Standing high on the Katsurakoba route from the Ina side, it is the base for climbers approaching Kiso-Komagatake from the north; highway buses reach Ina in about 3h30m from both Shinjuku and Nagoya. Around the hut is a colony of about 1,000 komakusa (dwarf poppy) plants that bloom from mid-July into early August, and the windows frame the Northern Alps and Yatsugatake. To protect the environment there is no conventional toilet — only booths for portable toilet bags — and the stone-shelter section stays open through winter for about 10 people.
