赤石小屋

2,548 m · Shizuoka, Shizuoka · 2.3 km from the summit of Mount Akaishi

Shizuoka prefectural hut at about 2,550m on the Okura ridge running east from Akaishidake in the Southern Alps. Operated by Tokushu Tokai Forest, it is the usual first night for walkers climbing Akaishidake from Sawarajima. It sleeps 50 and offers either two meals or room-only with bedding; in mid-July and from late September it runs room-only. A campsite for about 15 tents adjoins, taken on the day. During the season water is handed out at the hut, but supply is very limited and guests are asked to collect water at the head of Kitazawa. Outside the season part of the winter hut is left open, with a spring about ten minutes below it.
