Sun Marina Tamaniwa Ski Park Closed
Official name サンマリーナ玉庭スキー場
Yamagata
Opened in 1988
Sun Marina Tamaniwa Ski Park belonged to Sun Marina Tamaniwa, a large bubble-era resort in the hills of the Tamaniwa district of Kawanishi, Yamagata. A Tokyo company opened it in 1988 together with a golf course, a ten-storey hotel and condominiums. The slopes were criticised as too gentle for skiing, and visitors went instead to better-connected resorts around Yonezawa and Yamagata. The resort stopped operating from 2004 and all its businesses had ended by 2014. Construction of a large solar power plant began on the site in 2020, and panels now stand among the abandoned lodge and hotel buildings.
