Boyodai is Obira town's own ski hill, set just behind the town centre with views down over the streets and the Sea of Japan. One pair lift of about 500 m serves four runs, enough for beginners, families and stronger skiers, and snowboards are welcome. On weekdays the hill stays open into the evening under lights, and the lodge has a shop and canteen. Local schoolchildren get free season passes, and the town has produced competitive skiers including Masashi Abe, an Olympic gold medallist in the Nordic combined team event.
