Mt. Ubagatake

A 1,453 m peak rising at the headwaters of the Managawa River in the Suhara district of Ōno City, Fukui Prefecture, near the Fukui–Gifu prefectural border. Its name (literally "Old Woman Peak") is drawn from a legend that a mountain hag once dwelt in a cave near the summit. From the ridge climbers look out over the Hakusan range and the peaks along the Gifu border, with the Sasaogawa Dam directly below; the col known as Heike-daira on the approach harbours one of the southernmost colonies of Asian skunk-cabbage on Honshū together with extensive virgin beech forest, an area Ōno City has purchased outright for conservation. The peak appears in the "Bunken Tozan Guide: Fukui-ken no Yama", "Nihon no Yama 1000", "Tōkai Shūmatsu no Yamanobori Best 120" and "Nihon no Sangaku Hyōkō 1003" lists.
