Shinbo Family Ski Area is a small slope run by the town of Ikeda in Fukui, with gentle terrain topping out at about 10 degrees. The whole hill is visible from the base, so children are easy to keep in sight, and kids' rental gear and a separate sledding slope make it a natural place for a first ski day. Weekend lessons cater to beginners, queues are rare, and snowboards are allowed only on Mondays and Fridays. It is about 20 minutes by car from the Takefu IC on the Hokuriku Expressway.
