Gransnow Okuibuki, formerly Okuibuki Ski Resort, sits deep in the Ibuki mountains of Maibara, Shiga, and bills itself as one of the largest ski areas in Kansai, about 100 minutes from Osaka and 50 from Nagoya. Its 14 courses run from wide beginner slopes to the 46-degree Heavenly46°, the Champion mogul run, and ungroomed powder on Mont Blanc and the beech-wooded Sky View course. Snow guns and snowmakers let it open from mid-November to mid-April, and families get a big kids' park with covered conveyor belts and a large rental house. A slope-side hotel is planned.
