Mt. Shiroyama

Shiroyama is a 343.8 m peak in Yasuzuka Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, occupied by the ruins of Nominejo, a medieval mountain castle active from the Nanbokucho through Sengoku periods. Uesugi Kenshin used it as his first overnight stop on Kanto campaigns, and Naoe Kanetsugu's father Higuchi Kanetoyo later served as castellan. Wide dry moats, a 2 km cobbled section of the old Mikuni Highway and an 800-year-old zelkova survive, and it is registered among the Joetsu-Myoko Mountain Castles.
