Mt. Kirigatake

A 507 m peak in the Uragawara district of Jōetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, and the highest summit within Uragawara Ward. A shrine to Yakushi Nyorai stands on the open summit, where a 360° panorama reaches the Kubiki Sanzan (Mt Myōkō, Mt Hiuchi and Mt Yakeyama) and the Sea of Japan. Two routes climb the peak—from the former Kirigatake Onsen "Yuami" trailhead and from the Kotanijima trailhead off National Route 253—passing through beech primeval forest with seasonal katakuri and azalea blooms. The trails are maintained by the local Uragawara Mountain Friends, and the mountain is listed in Niigata's 50 Selected Mountain Walks.
