Mt. Shiraga

白髪山

A 1,769.7-meter peak in Monobe, Kami City, Kōchi Prefecture, rising west of the Tsurugi Range. Its tidy conical profile has earned it the names "Tosa Fuji" and "Niro Fuji," and locals distinguish it from another Shiragayama in Motoyama Town by calling this one "Monobe no Shiragayama." Stands of nanakamado fill the trailhead, while sasa-grass meadows carpet the ridge for a vivid green-and-crimson contrast in late autumn. The summit looks across to Mt. Sanrei to the north, Mt. Tsurugi to the east, the Nishi-Kuma Gorge below and the distant Pacific. The summit is reached in about fifty minutes, and the peak is listed in the Shikoku 100 Famous Mountains, Shikoku Hyakuzan and Nihon no Yama 1000.
