Mt. Karita is a 759.4 m satoyama in Obuse Town, Kamitakai District, Nagano Prefecture, named for a silhouette likened to the outstretched wings of a wild goose (kari). An observation platform near the summit looks out over the Hokushin Goyō — Mt. Iizuna, Mt. Madarao, Mt. Kurohime, Mt. Myōkō, and Mt. Togakushi — along with the Northern Alps and the town of Obuse, and the summit can be reached in roughly an hour from the trailhead. The historic Ganshō-in Temple, home to a famous ceiling painting by Hokusai, lies at the foot of the mountain. The peak is included on the Shinshū Furusato 120, Japan's 100 Famous Low Mountains, and Hokuriku Shinkansen 100 Mountains lists.
