From near Ganshoin in Obuse, known for Katsushika Hokusai's ceiling painting of a phoenix, this traverse climbs onto the ridge of Mount Karita, with the remains of Karita Castle, crosses the 759 m summit and descends to the Obuse Onsen Anakannon-no-yu hot spring. It has steep sandy climbs and rocky spots, the viewpoints look over the five peaks of northern Shinano and the Zenkoji plain, and wild azaleas bloom in May and June.
