Mt. Kangatake

An 897 m peak in Nanbu Town in the far south of Yamanashi Prefecture, sitting at the southernmost end of the Yamanashi Hyakumeizan list. The climb threads dense, neatly thinned plantations of Japanese cedar and cypress that reflect the area's long forestry tradition, and although the wooded summit itself has no view, the Heiji-no-Dan lookout on the ridge below opens onto Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay and the Izu Peninsula. A loop course from the Nakazawa heliport is one of the Yamanashi Hiking 100 Selections, and many parties extend the day by crossing Taru Pass to nearby Mt. Takadokkyō.
