Riverwell Ikawa is the only ski area in Shizuoka City, a city-run slope at about 1,400 m in the Ikawa district at the foot of the Southern Alps. Its gentle hilltop runs suit beginners and young children, and the view takes in Lake Ikawa, the Southern Alps and Mt. Fuji. Snow skiing runs from mid-January to early March, and unusually the slope also opens on a ski mat in spring and from summer through October. Skis, boards and sleds can be rented, and the rest house serves dishes made with local potatoes.
