Mount Tanzawa is a 1,567 m peak at the heart of the Tanzawa range, on the border of Sagamihara, Kiyokawa, and Yamakita in Kanagawa, within the Special Protection Zone of Tanzawa-Ōyama Quasi-National Park. Together with Tōnodake, Hirugatake, and Hinokibōramaru it forms the main Tanzawa ridge, and a first-class triangulation point sits on its summit. In Fukada Kyūya's Hyakumeizan it represents the entire Tanzawa massif, including Tōnodake and Hirugatake. The Miyama-sansō hut on the summit is staffed year-round, and the standard approaches are the Ōkura ridge or Omoteone ridge via Tōnodake, with longer routes coming from Miyagase. The beech forest on the summit ridge is a focus of conservation work, and rime ice forms on the upper slopes in winter.
