Miyama Sanso

Mountain hut on the summit of Tanzawasan (1,567m). Tanzawasan lies roughly midway between Tonodake and Hirugatake; the ridge from Tonodake rolls gently, opening westward to Mount Fuji and the Tanzawa peaks. The top is broad and level, with old beeches around it. The usual route is from Okura over Tonodake. The hut was rebuilt in November 2004 and opens 365 days a year. Inside are a reception and shop by the door, a rest area with both an earth-floored and a boarded room, a dining space, and private rooms the hut calls o-yasumi-dokoro; the boarded room is lined with mountain books. Stays are room-only by default, with dinner, breakfast and packed lunch added on, and reservations are taken only by telephone to the hut, from two months before the date. Tanzawa is chronically short of water, so water must be bought by the bottle. The whole building is non-smoking, there is no cooking room, and charging from the hut's sockets is not possible.
