Mount Osabi

Mount Osabi (1,908 m) is the principal peak of the Osabi Range, which separates the Nasu and Takahara mountain blocks in northern Tochigi Prefecture. Its summit zone, designated a national Natural Environment Conservation Area in 1981, preserves a primeval forest dominated by Maries' fir together with Erman's birch, Veitch's fir, and beech. There is no maintained trail to the peak; experienced parties traverse a long ridge from Mt. Hyakumura in the late-snow season, making it one of the toughest mountains in the Tochigi Hyakumeizan.
