Mount Kimobetsu

Mount Kimobetsu is a 1,177 m older volcano on the boundary between Sapporo (Jōzankei, Minami Ward) and Kimobetsu Town in Hokkaido, formed during the same volcanic period as neighbouring Mount Muine. Its name comes from the Kimobetsu River that drains its south-western slopes — derived from the Ainu 'kimo-pet' (mountain-stream valley). No maintained trail exists; the access road to the NTT relay station from Nakayama Pass is the most-used summer approach, though much of it is now overgrown with sasa bamboo. Winter ski touring from the Nakayama Pass side is popular. The mountain lies within Shikotsu-Tōya National Park and is one of the Sapporo 50 Peaks.
