Mount Gokurakuji (693 m) straddles Hatsukaichi City and Saeki Ward of Hiroshima City along the western Chūgoku Mountains, with its slopes designated as part of Setonaikai National Park. Just below the summit stands the venerable Shingon-sect Gokurakuji Temple, said to have been founded by the priest Gyōki, whose main hall is a designated cultural property of Hiroshima Prefecture. The mountain preserves a rare primeval fir (momi) forest that escaped wartime logging, and its observation deck commands sweeping views of Miyajima, Nomi-shima, and on clear days the mountains of Shikoku. It is listed among the Hiroshima Hyakuzan, Hiroshima Prefecture 100, and the Hatsukaichi 20.
