From near the viewpoint above Hera in Hatsukaichi, this return climbs the Hera Course, a restoration of the old main pilgrimage path, to Gokurakuji temple near the top of the 693 m Mount Gokurakuji. Said to have been founded by the monk Gyoki and with a main hall rebuilt by Mori Motonari, the temple is surrounded by old-growth fir and red oak forest, and its lookout faces Hiroshima city and Miyajima.
