Mount Akazura

赤面山

Mount Akazura is a 1,701-metre peak in Nishigō Village, Nishishirakawa District, Fukushima Prefecture, forming the northeastern outlier of the Nasu Volcanic Group within Nikkō National Park. Its flanks are clothed in primeval beech and white-birch forest, and the summit area is famed for fields of enkianthus and rhododendron. The principal trailhead lies near the former Shirakawa Kōgen ski area and the summit can be reached in about two hours, making it a popular destination chosen for both the Utsukushima Hyakumeizan and the New Utsukushima Hyakumeizan lists.
