Utsugidaira Shelter Hut

Unmanned emergency shelter at 2,520m in the Utsugidaira cirque, about 1km east of the summit of Utsugidake in the Central Alps. Administered by Komagane City, it is kept open essentially year-round to protect hikers at risk of being stranded. It stands on the route from the Ikeyama ridge to Utsugidake, within reach of parties coming up from Komagane Kogen when weather turns. There is a toilet, and water comes from a nearby stream that can run dry in some seasons. A voluntary maintenance contribution of about 1,000 yen is requested. No food, bedding, or equipment is provided.
