Mountain lodge at 2410m beside Mikurigaike pond on the Murodo plateau in Tateyama Town, Toyama, opened in 1957 as Japan's highest natural hot spring. It is about a 15-minute walk from Murodo Terminal on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route along a paved and stepped path, right beside the Mikurigaike viewpoint. Simple acidic spring water is pumped up 100m from the Jigokudani vents below and flows through the men's and women's indoor baths undiluted and unheated. Lodging is by reservation, in bunk-bed shared rooms or private Japanese- and Western-style rooms; day-use bathing, the Mikuri cafe and restaurant, and a shop with a Montbell corner are also open to visitors. It belongs to the Nihon Hitou wo Mamoru Kai association of secluded hot spring inns.
