A hut at about 2,170m in the Dakesawa valley, which rises from Kamikochi toward the Hotaka range; the present building dates from 2010. The path up from Kamikochi is comparatively gentle and well made, and over the two and a half hours of climbing the light filters through trees that change with the season — fresh green in spring, deep green in summer, gold in autumn. Arrive at the hut and the rock peaks of Hotaka stand in front of you as a full panorama, with Kamikochi below and Norikura in the distance. It serves as the night-before base for climbers heading to Maehotakadake and Okuhotakadake, and as the night-after stop for those coming off the Yari–Hotaka traverse. The alpine flower meadow of Tengusawa, ten minutes away, is at its best from early August to early September, the grassland above Kamikochi contrasting with the rock walls behind. The valley's autumn colour usually starts in late September, when a carpet of golden birch fills the basin. Spring water from nearby is free at the entrance, and the sleeping is in shared rooms only — there are no private rooms.
