A mountain lodge at about 2,980m on Shirodashi-no-koru, the col on the ridge between Okuhotakadake and Karasawadake. Just inside the entrance is an earth-floored dining room; there is also the "Sun Lobby", where you can watch the sun rise over the ridge and set into a sea of cloud, and a library of mountaineering books. The water is the little meltwater that runs beneath the great snow patch below the summit of Karasawadake, piped down to the hut and named Tenmeisui — water of heaven's decree — by the founder, Jutaro Imada. Climb the steep rock behind the lodge and you are on the summit of Okuhotakadake; this is also the starting point for the Jandarme, Maehotakadake, and the traverse from Karasawadake to Kitahotakadake. From the Gifu side the approach is the Shirodashizawa route from Shinhotaka, from Nagano it is Kamikochi by way of Karasawa. In summer Gifu University's medical faculty runs a clinic here, and in the busiest weeks the Gifu prefectural police mountain rescue team is stationed in the building. The season runs 27 April to 3 November; outside it a separate winter hut is available. Being on the Northern Alps crest, there is no bath or shower.
