This out-and-back route climbs Mount Kongō from Takamahiko Shrine. The ancient shrine stands on the mountain’s eastern foothills and venerates the Shirakumo Peak behind it as its sacred body. The trail leads to the mountaintop area of Katsuragi Shrine, the Mount Kongō summit shop, and Tenpōrinji Temple. Mount Kongō has long been a place of mountain worship, and Tenpōrinji is the surviving mountaintop temple.
