Kamiyuchi is a tiny municipal ski hill in the countryside outside Wakkanai, Japan's northernmost city, and it is free to use. There is one run served by a lift and a rope tow, plus a small lodge at the bottom, and the hill is run by the local neighbourhood association. It was built for ski lessons at nearby schools; since those schools closed it has been open to everyone, making it a quiet spot for families and local children to practise.
