Rausu Town Ski Area Closed
Official name 羅臼町民スキー場
Hokkaido
Closed in 2008
Rausu Town Ski Area was the town's own small ski hill, on the high ground just above the centre of Rausu on the Shiretoko Peninsula, with views over the Nemuro Strait toward Kunashir. It was much loved by the townspeople. The town closed it in 2008 because of financial difficulties. Volunteers and town staff later cleared the middle of the old slope by hand, and in 2022 it reopened as a Snow Peak-supervised campsite, Shiretoko Rausu Noasobi Field. The old ski hut now serves as a lodge, and the former slope and lift can still be seen behind it.
