Unabetsu is Shari's town ski hill in Minehama, at the gateway to the Shiretoko Peninsula, and one of the rare slopes where you ski looking out over the Sea of Okhotsk as it turns into a white plain of drift ice in winter. A single pair lift serves three runs, Salmon, Center and Larch, with a lodge at the base, and snowboarding is allowed. There is night skiing on weekdays and the hill is closed on Mondays. It opens in early January and usually runs until around the third Sunday of March.
