Kowa is Embetsu's small town-run ski hill, a local slope with a lodge and a short lift. Children ride free, and it is used mainly by local kids after school and at weekends. The lift runs mostly in the afternoon, with evening sessions on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It opens whenever there is enough snow and stays open until the thaw, except over New Year; in a lean winter the opening can slip to late January.
