Berg Yogo Ski Area Closed

Berg Yogo Ski Area was in the mountains of the upper Takatoki River in the former town of Yogo, now part of Nagahama, at the snowy northern tip of Shiga Prefecture near the Fukui border. It closed in 2009. Since then the bare former slopes have continued to erode, and sediment washing off the site after heavy rain is considered one cause of long-lasting muddy water in the Takatoki River. Nagahama City and Shiga Prefecture are pursuing corrective works, replanting and check dams at the site, but the work has remained unfinished for many years.
