Mt. Udukiyama is a 911 m grassland peak straddling the Shimane-Hiroshima prefectural border between Ōnan and Kitahiroshima within the Nishi-Chūgoku Sanchi Quasi-National Park. The summit and surrounding slopes have been used as hay meadows for centuries, and an early-April burn-off (yamayaki) is still organised each spring by the town, residents, and a local museum to sustain the unique grassland ecosystem that harbours more than 300 plant species. Pronounced "Udukiyama" on the Hiroshima side and "Ungetsusan" on the Shimane side, it features on the Hiroshima 100 and Chūgoku 100 mountain lists.
