Mt. Tenjō

Tenjō-zan is a 972.3 m peak on the boundary between Akiōta Town in Yamagata District and the Yuki-chō district of Saeki Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, with a deep old-growth forest in the southern Chūgoku Mountains. The trail begins at Ryūzu Gorge (one of Japan's 100 Secluded Scenic Spots) and climbs through the Hiki-ake no Mori, a primary forest of 100- to 400-year-old cedar, cypress, fir and horse-chestnut, before reaching the summit; the route is steep on both ascent and descent and is recommended for experienced hikers. Akiōta Town has designated the area a Forest Therapy base with the Ryūzu Gorge Therapy Road. The mountain is included in the Hiroshima 100 Famous Mountains lists.
