Mt. Takadokkyō

An 1,134 m peak on the boundary between Nanbu Town in Yamanashi and Shimizu Ward of Shizuoka City, marking the southernmost summit on the Yamanashi Hyakumeizan list. The unusual katakana spelling preserves an old reading whose origin is debated, with "high sutra chanting" (高読経) among the proposed source words. Most hikers approach from the Taru-tōge trailhead on the Yamanashi side, climbing a steep ridge with knife-edge sections and rock scrambles to a summit that opens out to Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the port of Shimizu. The ridge route on toward Tokuma Pass is currently closed by landslide damage.
