Mt. Shiraiwadake

Mt. Shiraiwa-dake is a 1,177 m peak in the Waga massif in the western part of Senboku City, Akita Prefecture, set on the long north-running ridge from the main summit of Mt. Waga (1,440 m) together with Mt. Yakushi and Mt. Mokko. The Waga massif extends over some 30,000 ha, with roughly 15,000 ha preserved as untouched virgin nature, and Mt. Shiraiwa-dake sits amid quiet stands of primeval beech and bamboo grass. It features in the 'Mountains of Akita' prefectural climbing guide, the 'Mountains of Japan 1000' and the 1990 Tōhoku 100 Famous Mountains — a remote and lightly-visited summit prized by experienced Tōhoku-region hikers.
