Sarukakure-yama is an 817 m peak on the border between Nichinan Town (Hino District, Tottori Prefecture) and Yasugi City (Shimane Prefecture), forming a sacred ridge with neighboring Ohaka-yama (758 m) — traditionally identified in the Kojiki as the burial site of Izanami-no-Mikoto. The older spelling 避隠山 (Sarukakure-yama) is linked to the place where Izanami died after giving birth to the fire god Kagutsuchi; the modern form 猿隠山 ("Monkey-hiding Mountain") derives from a later legend in which the warrior Fujinai Minbu Shigetada, guided by a monkey, slew a monster on these slopes. The Ohakayama–Sarukakure traverse runs about 5.8 km in roughly 3 hours 20 minutes, with optimal seasons mid-April to mid-May and early October to mid-November. The peak is included in the Hinan Mountains and the 100 Mountains of the Chūgoku Region.
