Rokkōsan is a 931 m peak straddling the boundary of Kobe (Kita Ward) and Nishinomiya in Hyōgo Prefecture, the highest summit of the Rokkō Range that stretches across Kobe, Ashiya, Nishinomiya and Takarazuka. Long associated with British resident A. H. Groom — who built villas and pioneered trails here in the late 19th century — it is widely regarded as a birthplace of modern recreational mountaineering in Japan. The mountain is famed for the 56 km Rokko Zenzan Jūsō traverse, the celebrated night view from neighbouring Mayasan, and the historic hot-spring town of Arima Onsen on its northern slopes. Designated as the Rokkō District of Setonaikai National Park, it is listed in the Japanese 300 Famous Mountains, the New Japan 100, and the Hundred Famous Low Mountains, among many others.
